Certification and system

US security cameras must be certified as follows:

① FCC (Federal Communication Commission) certification: Set standards for radio wave generation for electromagnetic wave generators, and examine and certify the product based on those standards. Most electrical and electronic devices that can generate electromagnetic waves during use, such as various wireless communication equipment, wireless devices using low power, computers, and peripheral devices, must obtain FCC certification.

② NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing laboratories) certification: When exporting industrial products such as electrical and electronic products to the United States, if NRTL certification is obtained, the US legal requirements for safety certification can be satisfied and exported. Target products include electrical equipment, equipment used in hazardous locations, fire protection and extinguishing equipment. Although it is not a mandatory certification system, local buyers may require this certification by default.

③ Energy Star certification: This is a joint program of the US Department of Energy (DoE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that attaches the Energy Star mark to products that meet the energy efficiency guidelines. It is applied autonomously to household appliances and electronic devices. Although not mandatory, the U.S. government grants tax benefits based on the economic rehabilitation legislation to products with the Energy Star mark, which also affects marketing and sales.

“Why Do You Need Us”

In many offices and places, IP cameras can be connected to the Internet to send video in real time or remotely to monitor anytime, anywhere. In addition, a variety of IP cameras are being released as a relatively low price has attracted attention as the biggest advantage.

However, the use of IP cameras is increasing due to the performance and convenience, but IP camera hacking incidents are continuing. In particular, it was found that 126 products, 32% of the 400 IP cameras in distribution in Korea, were exposed to hacking risks.

There are frequent incidents of hacking an IP camera installed in a family home to spy on personal privacy or illegally recording video and distributing it on the Internet.

One of the reasons this happens frequently is that after purchasing an IP camera, more people than you think are using it without changing the initial password.

In particular, since the initial password of the IP camera mostly uses numbers such as 0000 and 1234 that are easy to infer, hackers can easily hack them. This type of hacking damage can occur not only in IP cameras, but also in IoT products such as robot cleaners.

For this reason, M9C has been implementing the IoT product security certification system since the end of last year to strengthen the security of the entire IoT product.

In order to safely use not only IP cameras, but also increasingly diverse IoT devices, if users are more interested in their own security, hacking damage can be sufficiently prevented.

Even regular password changes and software upgrades will prevent 90% of hacking damage. In addition, it may be one way to check security items carefully before purchasing a product.
